Rep. Charles Boustany, R-La., a heart surgeon provided the Republican reply to President Obama’s speech on health care this evening. Not only is the gentleman a ‘birther’ but in one of those special ironies that tend to catch winger politicians (both left and right) he is also a co-sponsor of a bill that would have provided “end of life” counseling but which became the source of the Palin-promoted “death panels”.
Rep Boustany, agreed with some aspects of the President’s speech but of course brought up the malpractice shibboleth that is supposed to be the ‘real’ cause of high medical bills. Maybe it’s important to him because he has had to fight a couple of malpractice suits during his pre-political career as a physician. Or maybe it’s important to him because
Rep. Boustany has received $1,256,056 from health and insurance interests since first being elected in 2004. The total counts for more than 20 percent of all of his fundraising. – Link
For a heart surgeon he appears to be singularly heartless in his actions as a Congressman
Statement from the DCCC
“Congressman Boustany’s no votes on issues ranging from providing health insurance for children, to fighting pandemic flu, to keeping the doors open at community health centers makes him a credible voice for special interests, but not for hardworking Louisianians who struggle with health insurance companies,” said Jessica Santillo, Southern Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
